‘Alice in Tangoland’ weaves a magical universe where circus artistry fuses with the sensuality and elegance of tango in a spellbinding 90-minute journey. Under the vision of Anaïs Amar, scriptwriter and director, the classic tale is reborn , infused with poetry and daring modernity to reveal the extraordinary.
World-class circus performers join forces with exceptional tango dancers to unfold Alice’s timeless story. A stellar cast of acrobats, jugglers, contortionists, Cyr wheel artists, unicyclists, clowns, magicians, stilt-walkers, sword-swallowers, and tango virtuosos brings this world to life, transcending the boundaries of traditional circus and theatre.
In this unique adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, characters inspired by Lewis Carroll wander through dreamlike landscapes, fusing fantastical imagery with the hypnotic rhythm of tango.
Adorned in high heels, guided by a mad shoemaker, draped in sequins, or transformed into surreal beings, each performer adds vibrant visual poetry to the stage.
The soundtrack is as mesmerizing as the visuals , weaving traditional and contemporary Argentine tango with surprising influences from 70s rock and the cinematic flair of contemporary jazz. The result is a sonic journey as unforgettable as the spectacle itself.
‘Alice in Tangoland’ offers audiences a dazzling celebration of metamorphosis, magic, and fantasy.
In the subdued atmosphere of a dance studio, a stern tango teacher delivers a monotonous lesson to a young girl brimming with life. This marks the beginning of the captivating adventure of Alice in Tangoland.
Seated on a small wooden chair, Alice struggles to follow the repetitive steps of her instructor until she drifts into sleep… Suddenly, a white rabbit dressed in a tango suit appears. Anxious and pressed for time, he checks his pocket watch , clearly late for a mysterious appointment.
With a leap, he disappears down a rabbit hole, and Alice, driven by curiosity, impulsively follows.
Her pursuit of the white rabbit becomes a descent into an introspective, transformative journey to the core of her being. Along the way, she confronts her own shadow and encounters a gallery of eccentric characters, each reflecting a hidden facet of herself.
Alice in Tangoland portrays a unique yet universal quest for self-discovery. Lost in a world of illusions, Alice embarks on an extraordinary adventure, ultimately realizing that only by embracing her wholeness and accepting herself completely can she find true freedom
Alice in Tangoland is a complete work in itself, offering audiences a rich, multi-sensory journey.
For theatres that wish to go even further, we have designed an optional add-on experience that extends the magic before and after the performance.
Before the show, guests are welcomed into the lounge by a live tango trio:
the enchanting voice of Gisèle Cornejo, accompanied by Claudio César’s masterful guitar and Ezequiel Acosta’s soulful bandoneon. The atmosphere is further elevated by the presence of a close-up magician, whose artistry heightens the sense of wonder and prepares audiences to step fully into Alice’s world.
After the performance, spectators are invited to meet the cast, take photos, admire costumes and makeup up close, and exchange impressions , extending the magic of the evening beyond the stage.
